The coloring on an Eclectus Parrot depends on their sex, males are predominantly green, with red and turquoise under their wings and a yellow & orange beak whilst the female's heads, back, and breast are bright red, with a purple neck & belly, their beak is entirely black.

The Eclectus parrot is a parrot native to the Solomon Islands, Sumba, New Guinea and nearby islands, northeastern Australia, and the Maluku Islands. An Eclectus is a stocky parrot species ranging between 15 to 17 inches in size & a wingspan of around 8 to 10 inches! Eclectus parrots are one of the most beautiful and unique species of parrots.

When taken care of well, Eclectus parrots generally have a lifespan of around 30 years!

Your Eclectus should be fed either a high-quality formulated pellet or a high-quality seed mix along with lots of fruit & veggies. Eclectus parrots are considered herbivores and frugivores as opposed to granivores and so it is important to feed them daily fruit & veg to keep them healthy.

You could feed your parrot fruits rich in antioxidants and those that tend to be lower in sugar. This would include many kinds of berries, apples, apricots, melons, cherries, banana, kiwi fruit, strawberries, grapes, cranberries, coconut, dates and figs, mango, palm fruit, and fruit peaches and pears, pineapple, and more. feed citrus fruits sparingly due to their acidic nature. Along with vegetables such as capsicum, green beans, snow peas, carrot, celery, sweet potato, cauliflower, pumpkin seeds, silver beet storks and sprouts such as mung bean and grey sunflower.
