Scaly-Breasted Lorikeets AVIARY

In store we have a pair of aviary Scaly Lorikeets available ! 

Scaly-Breasted lorikeets are generally green in colour with yellow chest feathers edged in green which gives the "scaly" apparel, however we also have some scaly x rainbow lorikeets available which are different in colour ! Give us a ring to clarify what we have available at any time.  

The Scaly-Breasted Lorikeet is an Australian lorikeet, usually smaller than a rainbow lorikeet. They are about 23 cm in size and weigh an average of 86 grams. Scaly-breasted lorikeets are popular as they have a reputation for being intelligent and easy to train. They are quite active, playful and social and would make perfect additions to an aviary !

Whilst these birds are known to be quite healthy, due to their high-moisture diet, all lorikeets produce a large amount of liquid faeces. Their cage or aviary should be kept clean and maintained as to not invite bacterial and fungal infections. A healthy Scaly-breasted lorikeet should have an expected lifespan of 15-20 years.

Scaly breasted lorikeets have a diet of nectar and pollen, they also enjoy eating blossoms, berries, other fruit and veg, and insects. You should feed your Scaly lorikeets a good quality nectar blend, (a variety of wet and dry options are available in store.) Along with a small serving dish of fruit salad daily! Some fruits they enjoy are apples, pears, mangos, oranges, melons, grapes, paw paw and tangerine ! You can also provide your lorikeet with veggies such as bok choy, peas, asparagus, corn, cucumber, kale, broccoli, parsnip, or zucchini. You can offer your bird native eucalypt, bottle brush or grevilia flowers as well.
